Youth Action Team Forum

The Youth Action Team are a group of young people aged 16-25 who live in Stockport. They currently meet on a fortnightly basis to discuss and plan youth volunteering opportunities in Stockport. All members contribute their own ideas through meetings, for future projects. This allows the members to work on projects and activities of their own interests and those of the group - so all projects are different!

The team have recently taken part in a podcast representing Savy and promoting the benefits of volunteering in your community. Please find the podcast link below:   http://www.stockport.gov.uk/doitonline/multimedia/volunteeringpodcasts

Meet the Team!

Jess: I am a student at Cheadle and Marple Sixth Form College. I have been with the YAT for just over a year and have really enjoyed working and meeting other groups. I think it's a really good use of my time and I enjoy meeting up with the rest of the team.

Karen: I really enjoy being part of the YAT because we have the opportunity to create our own projects that will interest young people. I work at Sainsburys and the library and also enjoy doing art work in my spare time. I love most types of art- my favourites are Manga and Comic art, graffiti and body art. I love lots of music and my favourite band is Muse. Volunteering is fun, you have the chance to meet new people, you get lots of experience for your C.V. and you get to become a decision maker!

Kyle: I am a part of the YAT because I get a good feeling whenever I help someone, so by volunteering I get the opportunity to help lots of people! I am a student at St James Catholic High School and my hobbies include guitar, drums, piano and composing music. I believe that anyone who enjoys helping people should volunteer. Not only does it look great on your C.V. but it makes you feel good about yourself.

Amelia: I am a student at Xaverian College and have been part of the YAT for just over a year. The thing I enjoy most about YAT is having the chance to design our own volunteering activities while giving something back to the community.

Kim: I attend Cheadle and Marple sixth form college. I joined the YAT because I had already done some volunteering and I wanted to do this further with activities for the community. Being part of the YAT is really fun and its a great opportunity to gain new experiences.

SAVY Youth Action Team (YAT)

The Youth Action Team is a network of young people from Stockport aged between        16 – 25 years old who have been a fundamental part of the work that SAVY have been developing.  It has been a busy 12 months for the YAT as they have been attending fortnightly action meetings to discuss potential ideas for volunteering  projects, and have actively been delivering a number of projects out in the community themselves.  The YAT submitted a funding application for the Stockport Youth Opportunity Funds and were successful.  Working in partnership with SAVY and Stockport MBC the YAT were invited to take part in a podcast to discuss the objectives of their team and their views of being an active volunteer in Stockport. We have included a few examples of projects which the YAT have co-ordinated below;

ABC in Heaton Moor

Project: Creating a Weather Forecast

The YAT planned and facilitated a volunteer art and drama project with a group of young people from the ABC group who are a group of young people with disabilities. The project included art work, making instruments, drama and creative writing.

Beechwood Cancer Care

Project:  Artwork

To learn more about Beechwood the YAT organised a visit to the centre. They were given a tour and introduced to the different members of staff who support the people who visit the centre.  From this visit the YAT used the information to create a leaflet and designed and made a large V (for Vinvolved) to represent Beechwood at a city centre campaign.
